A multi-million dollar plan to install water and wastewater pipes beneath Highway 403 near the Oak Park Road interchange is deemed “critically important” for Brantford’s economic future, according to Mayor Kevin Davis.
The site is directly north of Highway 403 and includes a former gravel pit, one of the few locations in southern Ontario poised for industrial development once the necessary infrastructure is established. Mayor Davis emphasized the land's vast size and potential, comparing it to a site that could have hosted an auto assembly plant 20 years ago.
“It’s the kind of land that 20 years ago you would see an auto assembly plant on it. It’s that large, it’s that significant to both the future of our community and southern Ontario.”
Davis highlighted that resolving trade issues with the United States could spark considerable industrial growth in southern Ontario, positioning Brantford as a prime candidate for investment—but only if the infrastructure project is completed.
“We’d be a prime candidate for that investment, but we won’t be a prime candidate unless the pipes are in the ground. We need to have those pipes in place to secure economic development.”
Councillor Richard Carpenter described the project as “crucial.”
“This project is crucial.”
Author’s summary: The water infrastructure project under Highway 403 is vital for Brantford’s industrial growth, positioning the city for future economic opportunities once trade stability returns.
