Nassau Police Officer Ian Fogarty Honored
Ian Fogarty, a Nassau County police officer, was recognized for rescuing two teens caught in a riptide at Cupsogue Beach County Park on July 16.
Fogarty, who was visiting the beach with his family, saw two 16-year-olds caught in the current about 100 yards offshore and swam out to them with a boogie board, helping them return to shore safely.
“It just looked like it was something that could go wrong very quickly,”
recalled Fogarty, 38. The Nassau County Legislature honored Fogarty for his “selfless valor” and named him its “Top Cop” for September.
