Tyler Robinson, accused of assassinating conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, has made a request through his lawyers ahead of a court hearing.
Robinson's lawyers argue that if the request is not met, it could hinder the possibility of a fair trial. Robinson was arrested for the alleged assassination of Kirk, who was shot and killed on September 10 while speaking at a Utah Valley University event.
A massive manhunt ensued, and the FBI announced an arrest less than two days later. Robinson now faces seven charges, including aggravated murder and obstruction of justice.
If convicted, Robinson could face capital punishment, as Utah is one of five states that still uses a firing squad as a method of execution.
No potential motive for the killing has been given by officials.
