Nanaimo's city council has decided to include transportation by rail in future planning for transit-oriented areas.
A motion put forward by Coun. Hilary Eastmure at a meeting on Monday, Oct. 6, recommended that staff look for opportunities to create policies supporting transit-oriented development centers, including Country Club and Woodgrove, with connections to the rail system.
“We’re doing this review right now. We’re working on these transit-oriented development centres,”
said Eastmure. The motion aims to direct staff to consider the corridor's potential for interurban light rail and active transit as part of the city's plan review.
