A New Partnership to Support People with Brain Injuries
Headway Devon, a local charity based in Exeter, specializes in helping individuals rehabilitate from head injuries. The organization has partnered with Thompsons Solicitors, MAPS Benevolent Trust, and the Players of the Postcode Lottery to provide support to people with brain injuries.
After a brain injury, people are often discharged home to their family network without wider support. As one might experience, "You've spent months in hospital, in ICU, in rehabilitation with a team of clinicians around you and suddenly you're all alone."
Individuals may not understand the extent of their brain injury and might be navigating a legal fight for compensation. During this challenging time, they are still recovering, regaining skills, and learning to live with their brain injury.
Headway Devon currently works with around 100 people every week, but there are many more who go home alone without knowing about the organization's services. With the support of their new partners, Headway Devon can now reach out to people in the hospital.
