Pope Leo XIV boarded the "Bel Espoir" sailboat to speak to a crew of young adults from various Mediterranean countries and religions.
The sailboat, whose name means "beautiful hope", had spent eight months sailing to 30 Mediterranean ports, with rotating crews of 25 young adults discussing faith and peace challenges.
The world needs "signs, witness, impressions that give hope"
At the marina in Ostia, outside of Rome, the Pope praised the young people's efforts as a "sign of hope for the Mediterranean and the world", highlighting the importance of dialogue learned from living and working together on the boat.
The crew consisted of eight groups of 25 young adults, each spending a month on the sailboat.
