OceanGate's ‘Titan’ went on 7 dives with a damaged hull before implosion

OceanGate's 'Titan' Submersible Disaster

Investigations into the OceanGate Titan submersible disaster have revealed that the vessel had a damaged hull prior to its fatal implosion.

The United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) found that the submersible's exterior featured "multiple anomalies" as early as 2022, including initial layered fractures known as delaminations in its carbon fiber composite exterior.

The submersible wasn't damaged shortly before its final voyage.

The incident resulted in the deaths of all five passengers on board during a dive to visit the wreckage of the RMS Titanic in June 2023.

Author's summary: Submersible had prior hull damage before fatal implosion.
