A Letterkenny councillor, Tomás Seán Devine, has called for a safety survey of trees along roadsides and within council estates to assess their risk of falling during future storms.
Cllr Devine suggested the detailed assessment would prevent the "near misses" experienced during Storm Amy, citing the Ballymacool area where trees were "ready to fall on top of cars" as the storm hit.
There are trees in that estate in a serious condition that need urgent attention, and I have notified the council before about trees hanging over wires.
This call comes after Storm Isha in January 2024, where workers helped with a fallen tree at Ballymacool Woods.
