A solar-powered hospital-on-wheels takes urgent care to Zimbabwe’s hinterlands

A Solar-Powered Hospital on Wheels in Zimbabwe

In Zimbabwe, over 60% of the population lives in rural areas with limited access to healthcare due to distance, cost, and infrastructure deficits.

Residents often have to walk 15km to 20km to reach the nearest clinic, resulting in delayed care.

“We were seeing preventable deaths from treatable conditions, mothers giving birth at home without skilled assistance and people living with undiagnosed chronic illnesses simply because care was out of reach,”

says Chiedza Mushawedu, co-founder and executive director of ZimbosAbantu Healthcare on Wheels, who witnessed these challenges while working for a private hospital in 2016.

A solar-powered hospital-on-wheels is now taking urgent care to Zimbabwe's hinterlands.
