Cypress Mortality Detected In Wisconsin

According to the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection Nursery Program, a detection of Cypress mortality was found in Wisconsin for the first time last month.

The disease caused damage to a field of 'Star Power' Juniper in a Washington County nursery and is caused by the oomycete plant pathogen Phytophthora austrocedri.

This pathogen predominantly affects plants in the Cupressaceae family and was first reported in the United States in Oregon in 2024, spreading via infected plants, soil, and water.
