Spain Endures One of the Warmest Septembers Since 1961

September 2025 brought a striking mix of extremes to Spain, with intense storms drenching the Mediterranean coast, yet overall, it was one of the warmest Septembers in more than six decades.

According to Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the average temperature across mainland Spain in September was 19.7°C, around 0.6°C higher than the 1991–2020 average.

This makes it the 23rd warmest September since records began in 1961, and the tenth warmest of the 21st century.

The heat was far from evenly distributed, with record temperatures across the south.

September 2025 was a stark example of the country’s pattern of record-breaking heat.

Author's summary: Spain experiences one of its warmest Septembers despite dramatic storms.
