The provincial government is introducing a new look for licence plates, with a theme of "Strong and Free" starting in 2026.
According to the government, this theme echoes the province's Latin motto and reflects "Alberta's bold identity, economic strength and deep-rooted provincial pride."
The motto's inclusion on the licence plates will also serve as a nod to Canada's national anthem and Alberta's position as a strong and sovereign province within a united Canada.
Until November 15, Albertans can vote online to choose among eight unique designs that incorporate the province's landscape and history.
The current licence plate design has been in use since 1984, making this change a significant update.
