Number mistake led Powerball player to win half of $1.8B jackpot

Powerball Winner Claims Half of $1.8B Jackpot

A lucky Powerball winner in Texas has claimed the second half of a nearly $1.8 billion jackpot, the second-largest in U.S. history.

The winner, one of two in the early September drawing, took the one-time payment option, claiming more than $410 million before taxes. The prize was claimed with a trust, which adds a layer of anonymity for privacy.

A representative of the trust revealed that the player won after a number mistake. The player usually picks random numbers, but this time they chose to play personally meaningful numbers. However, after buying the ticket, they realized one of the numbers was different than what they intended to choose.

“We are Texas true to the state and its values. We believe in family, in faith, and in the blessings that come through both.”

The player discovered they had the winning numbers on the way to church the morning after the drawing.
