Higgins: Army Corps stands in the way of flood prevention

Army Corps Criticized for Inaction on Flood Prevention

Rep. Clay Higgins has expressed frustration with the Army Corps of Engineers for not spending $50 million allocated to dredging the Vermilion River, a project aimed at preventing flooding in Lafayette.

The Corps of Engineers no longer serves our republic.

According to Higgins, the money was secured in 2021, but none of it has been spent on dredging to date. Despite his efforts, science suggests that dredging may not be an effective solution to prevent flooding.

Higgins' criticism comes after recording a video near the Coulee Ile des Cannes detention ponds, where he outlined his concerns about the Army Corps' inaction.
