A National White Cane Day event in Pittsfield shed light on independence for the blind and visually impaired.
Participants gained firsthand insight into the daily experiences of people who are blind or visually impaired. Jennifer Moriarty, director of human resources for UCP, wore a blindfold to experience making breakfast with no vision.
It did give me a different perspective
Randy Kinnas, the CEO of UCP of Western Massachusetts, spoke during the event, raising awareness about the importance of the white cane as a symbol of independence.
