Closing Arguments in Case of Mother Accused of Leaving Baby to Die

Persia Nelson, a Schenectady woman, is charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, and endangering the welfare of a child in connection to the death of her 11-month-old daughter, Halo Branton.

Nelson allegedly left her baby down an 8-foot drainage pipe in a utility shed on the General Electric campus in March 2024.

Closing Arguments

Attorneys from both sides presented their closing arguments. Nelson's attorney, Mark Sacco, argued that his client was drunk, tired, and cold, and that she did everything she could to save her baby.

It was reasonable and plausible that she could not remember where she put her baby, said Sacco.

The jury will soon begin deliberating the fate of Nelson.
