Sisterhood of Sound: 10 Years of Saffron

Saffron, a non-profit organisation, is pushing for gender equality in the music industry. Founded in Bristol in 2015, it has been working towards this goal for 10 years.

According to its founder, Laura Lewis-Paul, Saffron was not initially intended to start a movement. Lewis-Paul was working in community development, running a creative programme for young people when she first imagined Saffron.

Saffron has become one of Bristol’s most important cultural forces — a music tech initiative built by and for women and non-binary people that has redefined who gets to create, perform, and be heard.

Today, Saffron's founder and one of its alumni reflect on its successes and what still needs to be done to achieve gender equality in the music industry.
