The game intensified in the third quarter when Daniel Britt made a notable play,
faking the handoff, rolling to his right and lofting it to DJ Smith, making the score 27-17. After UMD narrowed the deficit to three, Britt scored again, keeping the ball on an option play and outrunning the defense for 28 yards.
In the final minutes, Kyle Walljasper found Luke Dehnicke in the end zone, and the Bulldogs recovered an onside kick. However, their comeback attempt was thwarted when an interception occurred on 1st & 10 from the Northern State 35-yard line.
This loss marked the first time UMD has lost back-to-back games in the series since 2000.
