Survivors of domestic abuse encounter significant difficulties in their pursuit of justice due to a lack of funding in the family court system, according to a new report by the Domestic Abuse Commissioner (DAC).
The report, titled "Everyday business: Addressing domestic abuse and continuing harm through a family court review and reporting mechanism," reveals that domestic abuse is a prevalent issue in family courts, with the majority of reviewed cases identifying it as a concern.
Everyone should be able to live their lives free from violence and fear.
Law Society of England and Wales president Mark Evans emphasized that despite the efforts of judges, lawyers, and court staff, years of underfunding by the government have resulted in domestic abuse survivors not receiving the necessary public service from the family courts.
Author's summary: Domestic abuse survivors are failed by underfunded family courts.
