Questionable Diplomatic Postings
David Bullard wonders why disgraced ANC members often receive diplomatic postings abroad.
He admits that, until recently, he had no idea who the ambassador to France was, assuming it would be someone with an impeccable record of loyalty to the country and no skeletons in their closet.
The author mentions Nathi Mthethwa, who apparently took his own life by jumping from the 22nd floor of a Paris hotel, although the investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of death.
I might have had a few guesses and they would all have been wide of the mark because I would probably have naively assumed that anybody South Africa sent to represent its interests overseas would have had an impeccable record of loyalty to the country and, more importantly, no smallanyana skeletons in the closet.
