Families of men killed by Topeka police officers in 2022 continue to ask the city for accountability and transparency.
Three years ago, Topeka man Taylor Lowery was killed by officers after allegedly attempting to steal a car and advancing toward them with a knife.
Everyday I don’t have a dad, due to our ‘supportive system,’ so it’s just emotional to carry on
- said Lowery’s daughter Lah’Niyah Duncan Lowery.
Lowery was one of three men, including Christopher Kelley and Dylan Walstrom, who died during separate officer-involved shootings in 2022.
When you have city officials that have not acknowledged or dismissed and have acted as if the family is in the wrong for speaking out and trying to get justice
- said LaRonna Lassiter-Saunders, the attorney representing the families.
The families are still seeking justice and closure, with Lassiter-Saunders noting that while others may have moved on, the loved ones are still grieving.
