Brant County Faces Budget Pressures Ahead of 2026 Property Tax Discussions
Brant County is anticipating significant budget pressures in the lead-up to 2026 property tax discussions.
A long-term property tax forecast reveals some of the budget pressures the county will face in 2026, including anticipated capital projects, operating expenses, and revenue across the next 10 years.
The 2026 forecast indicates a 13.6 per cent increase, the highest anticipated across the decade. Byron Tan, a consultant from Watson & Associates, emphasized that this is not the final property tax levy, but rather
a raw set of data based on the expenditures and revenues in a particular year.
Tan suggested that the county can mitigate the impact on residents by using reserve funds, delaying non-priority projects, or taking on debt to spread payments out, thereby
smoothing the rate.
