Everett Offers Free Transit to Grocery Stores

The City of Everett will provide free transit on Transit Route 12 to local grocery stores for six months.

This decision comes after Kroger's announcement to close several grocery stores, including Fred Meyer, across the region.

Response to Fred Meyer Closures

According to Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin, the free transit offerings are in response to the Fred Meyer closures affecting residents who rely on the store for groceries.

“Crime is down all over in that area, but shoplifting is down by 80%, and that is a significant decrease,”

said Franklin, contradicting Fred Meyer's claim that repeated crime is the cause for closing the locations.

Transit Route 12 Details

Transit Route 12 connects the Everett Mall and the Seaway Transit Center, making stops near Fred Meyer, Trader Joe’s, and Walmart.
