The idea for the MVP gimmick in WWE was inspired by an NFL star, according to Andrew Goldstein, a former WWE creative team member.
Goldstein revealed this information while speaking to Conrad Thompson of AdFreeShows.com on The Insiders podcast.
“You could just see the wheel spinning, I mean, the best example of that is MVP”
MVP was in developmental at the time, and his character was still in its early stages. Goldstein, an Eagles fan, noted that the team had Terrell Owens, which likely influenced Dusty Rhodes' creation of the MVP character.
The character eventually came together with a full body suit and sports-styled presentation, reflecting the inspiration from the NFL star.
