Senator Erin Grall has filed a bill to strengthen parental rights over minors' health care, requiring individuals under 18 to obtain guardians' permission for STD treatment.
The proposed legislation, SB 166, aims to give parents more control over their minor children's access to health care. While licensed health care professionals would still be allowed to examine minors for STDs without parental approval, they would be prohibited from treating a minor's STD without a guardian's consent.
"The consent of a parent or guardian of a minor is not a prerequisite for an examination; however, the consent of a parent or guardian is required for treatment,"
reads Grall's legislation.
