In 2024, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) recorded 617 extreme weather events, with 152 classified as unprecedented and 297 as unusual, causing significant displacement, injuries, and fatalities.

These disasters displaced more than 824,000 people, injured 1.1 million, and caused 1,700 fatalities.

According to WMO’s State of the Global Climate report, the numbers do not capture the full spectrum of impacts and consequences as global climate change takes hold.
