The City of Quincy is gearing up for a winter storm expected to arrive early Saturday morning. In anticipation, city officials plan to deploy snowplow crews before sunrise to clear main routes and ensure safe travel conditions across the city.
According to Director of Central Services Jeff Mays, the department has been closely monitoring weather forecasts and preparing equipment since Thursday. Salt spreaders and plows have been serviced, and fuel reserves have been checked to guarantee continuous operation through the storm’s duration.
“We ask residents to stay off the roads if possible and give our crews space to work effectively,” said Mays.
Crews will begin plowing and salting around 4 a.m. Saturday, prioritizing primary roads, emergency routes, and steep hills. Secondary streets will follow once conditions stabilize. Citizens are reminded not to park vehicles on designated snow emergency routes to prevent towing and to allow faster clearing.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local media and the city’s official website for updates on road conditions and plowing progress. The city also recommends checking vehicle readiness—tires, antifreeze, and wipers—before venturing out.
“Preparedness and cooperation from the public make a big difference in how quickly we can restore normal travel,” Mays emphasized.
