Leaders of the World Council of Churches (WCC) met with China’s Minister of Religious Affairs to discuss shared commitments to peace, justice, and unity among peoples and faith communities.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation in addressing challenges facing the global community. The discussions highlighted the need for faith-based organizations to play an active role in promoting reconciliation and understanding among nations.
"Peace and unity are not abstract ideals—they are the foundation of sustainable coexistence," said Bishop Bedford-Strohm, reflecting the WCC’s ongoing engagement in interreligious dialogue.
The conversation also explored the possibilities for strengthening relationships between the WCC and religious institutions in China. Shared projects in humanitarian aid, education, and cultural exchange were identified as potential ways forward.
Rev. Hyde Riley underlined that the WCC values mutual respect and learning: “Our journey together must be guided by a commitment to truth, compassion, and the dignity of every person.”
The meeting reaffirmed the WCC’s intention to maintain open and constructive engagement with religious and governmental leaders worldwide. Both parties expressed hope that future collaborations would foster peace and encourage greater unity across different traditions.
