Fakhrul demands compensation

Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday demanded compensation for the party's activists and leaders who were injured during the 2013 general elections and the hartals that followed.

Fakhrul made the demand at a press conference at the BNP's central office in the capital's Naya Paltan area.

"We have been demanding compensation for our activists and leaders who were injured during the 2013 elections and the subsequent hartals, but the government has not paid any heed to our demand. We will continue our movement until we get the compensation," Fakhrul said.

He also alleged that the government has been trying to create unrest in the country by imposing the hartals.

"The government has been imposing the hartals to create unrest in the country. But the people have been rejecting the hartals and the government's plans to create unrest. We will continue our movement to protect the people's rights and interests," Fakhrul said.

He also demanded that the government should take steps to ensure the safety of the party's activists and leaders.

"The government should take steps to ensure the safety of our activists and leaders. We will not tolerate any harassment or intimidation of our activists and leaders. If the government does not take any steps to ensure their safety, we will take stronger measures," Fakhrul said.
