BBC Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox is taking part in the Great Northern Marathon Challenge to raise funds for Children In Need. She will have the encouragement of her husband and three children throughout the event.
The challenge began on Monday, November 10, and covers 135 miles across four English counties — Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire. This distance equals five marathons completed over five days.
During the journey, Sara is running, jogging, and walking through scenic northern landscapes, including moorlands, ridges, and hills. Supporters from towns, villages, and Radio 2 listeners are cheering her on along the route.
Fifty-year-old Sara, who often appears on BBC One's Morning Live, lives in London with her husband, children, and several pets. Originally from Bolton, Greater Manchester, she’s known as an animal lover with a home full of dogs and cats.
Before her broadcasting career, Sara worked as a model and became known after hosting Channel 4’s The Girlie Show, followed by roles on MTV and The Big Breakfast. Her personal life has seen both success and heartbreak.
She previously married DJ Jon Carter in a private ceremony in North London in October 2001, though the marriage later ended in separation. Since then, she has found happiness again with her present family life and career accomplishments.
