BBC Radio 2 drivetime presenter Sara Cox kicked off her ambitious Children in Need challenge by running through the Northumbrian countryside on November 10. Starting at 8:20 AM from Tower Knowe, Kielder, she covered a marathon distance of 26.2 miles, passing several villages along the way.
Sara's route took her through Tarset, Bellingham, Wark, Humshaugh, Chollerford, Wall, and Acomb before arriving in Hexham in the evening. Along the journey, she was greeted warmly:
This marathon marks the first phase of Sara's five-part challenge, where she aims to complete five marathons in five days, concluding in Pudsey, Leeds.
"Done in but very happy, amazing. I've just run an ultramarathon, I've done over 26 miles! I want to dedicate it to every child that has been helped by the Children in Need projects. I want to dedicate this to any child who has been teased for having wonky legs or walking funny or running funny like I always was at school."
Sara's run is an inspiring effort to support children facing challenges, showing her commitment both physically and emotionally.
