Season of Respiratory Infections in Hungary
The respiratory season, often referred to as the influenza season, has officially started in Hungary on the 40th week of 2025.
It is expected to peak between the 3rd and 7th weeks of 2026. Currently, coronavirus infections are dominant, with almost 100 people hospitalized due to severe acute respiratory infection (ARI), and more than a third of them testing positive for SARS-CoV-2.
The respiratory surveillance service will monitor the incidence of influenza-like illnesses and acute respiratory infections based on data from 1,288 general practitioners and pediatricians.
No official statement on the expected severity of the season has been made.
This season's surveillance has the smallest number of participating doctors to date.
