Wind and Rain Warnings Issued for B.C.'s South Coast

Strong weather is affecting B.C.'s South Coast and Lower Mainland with overlapping warnings in place Thursday morning.

Rainfall Warning

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a rainfall warning for parts of Metro Vancouver, including the North Shore, Coquitlam, and Maple Ridge. Howe Sound is also covered by this warning.

“An additional 20 to 40 mm of rainfall can be expected before the rain eases off later this evening,” said the ECCC.

Michael Kuss, a meteorologist at 1130 NewsRadio, indicated the heaviest rain is expected during the Thursday afternoon commute.

Wind Warning

A wind warning is in effect for Richmond, Delta, the Sunshine Coast, and much of eastern Vancouver Island.

“Winds may reach speeds of 70 to 90 kilometres per hour,” the ECCC stated.

Residents are advised to secure loose objects as winds are expected to ease later in the evening.

Both rain and wind conditions are expected to improve by the evening.

Summary

Severe rain and strong winds are affecting B.C.'s South Coast and nearby regions, with warnings in place to prepare residents for potential traffic disruptions and property impacts.
