Jetstar to launch Bali flights, more interstate routes from Avalon Airport

Jetstar to Resume Bali Flights and Expand Interstate Routes from Avalon Airport

International services are set to return to Avalon Airport, located on the outskirts of Geelong, following a six-year hiatus caused by COVID-19 restrictions. A new bus route from Lara station to the airport will also be introduced to improve access for thousands of airport workers and travelers.

International Flight Resumption

Jetstar will begin operating five weekly return flights to Denpasar, Bali, starting March 23. This marks the return of international flights to Avalon after the pandemic halted operations in March 2020.

Interstate Route Expansion

Airport Developments and Government Support

Avalon Airport is investing at least $31 million in infrastructure upgrades to support the expanded flight network. The Victorian government will contribute a “very small” and undisclosed portion of the funding for these improvements.

“It’s taken some time for the industry to recover,” said Ari Suss, Avalon Airport’s chief executive.
“The government’s contribution is a fraction of the overall investment.”

Background on Avalon’s International Services

Before international operations were suspended, AirAsia operated twice-daily flights to Kuala Lumpur from Avalon. The return of Jetstar’s international services is expected to encourage other airlines to consider using the terminal.

New Transport Links

The Victorian government will also fund a new bus route connecting Lara station to Avalon Airport, making travel to and from the airport easier for staff and passengers.

Author's summary: Jetstar is reviving international flights to Bali and expanding domestic routes from Avalon Airport, backed by infrastructure investments and new public transport links to support growth.
