After countless hours of training, Bolton native Sara Cox is ready for an epic challenge as she prepares to run the equivalent of five marathons in five days. The BBC Radio 2 presenter from Little Lever will cover 135 miles on foot across four counties to support Children in Need.
In a post to her 545,000 Instagram followers, Sara shared:
“Welcome to the calm before the storm. I’m watching Countryfile, in Northumberland, having a lovely time. Tomorrow (Monday), I’ll start my epic Great Northern Marathon Challenge – 135 miles – from Kielder Forest all the way to Pudsey in Leeds. Thanks for all your messages on Instagram, they’ve given me such a boost.”
Sara will appear alongside Scott Mills on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show this morning, with the challenge scheduled to start at 8:15 AM.
She added:
“I’ll be up super early, my knees will be a-knocking but I am going to give it as much welly as I can despite having a slight lurgy. Let’s do this and raise loads of money for Children in Need.”
Sara follows in the footsteps of fellow Bolton celebrities and Radio 2 colleagues Paddy McGuinness and Vernon Kay, who completed their own challenges in recent years to raise millions for the charity.
Summary: Sara Cox embarks on a five-day marathon challenge to raise funds for Children in Need, demonstrating determination despite physical challenges.
