A woman and a child tragically drowned after falling into Dandenong Creek near Allan Street on Monday afternoon. Emergency services were alerted at 3:45 pm following a witness report of two people being swept away by strong currents.

Authorities believe the woman rushed to save the child but got into trouble herself. A police spokeswoman stated:

“It’s believed the woman went to the aid of the child and also got into difficulty.”

Police carried out a search of the area, finding the unconscious pair. They were pulled from the water, and CPR was administered, but sadly, both were pronounced dead at the scene.
