Roar Striker Intent on Showing ‘Quality’ Against Former Club

Brisbane striker Justin Vidic insists he does not have anything to prove to his former club Newcastle despite being eager to demonstrate his quality after being released by the Jets last season. After scoring just one goal in 13 A-League appearances for Newcastle, Vidic was not offered a new contract when Mark Milligan became the coach, ending his two-year stint with the club.

Facing uncertainty in his professional career, the 21-year-old seized the opportunity to trial with Brisbane Roar. His determination earned him a two-year contract where his hardworking and traditional playing style fits the Roar’s straightforward and physical tactics under coach Michael Valkanis.

“These things happen for a reason,” Vidic said ahead of the Sunshine Coast Stadium clash between Roar and Jets. “I’m sure I’ll show my quality. I don’t think I have anything to prove to them. They know what I’m capable of, and there are lots of people at the club that I still speak to and that I’m still close to. They know my potential and I want to show them that on Sunday.”

Vidic has started in two of Brisbane’s three matches this season and scored his first goal for the Roar in a 2-1 loss to Wellington last month.

“Starting in our past two games has been good for me.”

Career Summary

Summary: Justin Vidic is motivated to demonstrate his abilities for Brisbane Roar, confident in his potential despite a difficult spell at Newcastle Jets.
