A powerful tornado struck Rio Bonito do Iguacu, a town of 14,000 in Parana state, killing at least six people and injuring around 750. The storm hit Friday evening, lasting only minutes but packing winds of up to 250 km/h (155 mph).
The tornado flipped cars and demolished buildings, leaving much of the town in ruins. Aerial images revealed widespread devastation, with debris scattered everywhere. Authorities reported that 90% of the town suffered damage, including houses and schools.
“I arrived home and found myself without a roof over my head,” said 51-year-old Nereu Sabadini, who was away when the tornado struck. “I’m homeless and rebuilding will take some time.”
“It destroyed the town, houses, schools. What will become of us?” asked Roselei Dalcandon, standing near the rubble of her former shop.
Firefighters and medical teams treated approximately 750 injured people, with nine in serious condition. One person remains missing as rescue operations continue.
