Ismael Bonfim struggled significantly at the official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 111, coming in five pounds over the lightweight limit. Despite the one-pound allowance for non-title fights, Bonfim weighed 161 pounds, missing weight by a wide margin.
This marks the second time Bonfim has missed weight in his UFC career. Earlier, he also missed the mark by 3.5 pounds for a scheduled fight against Vinc Pichel at UFC Sao Paulo in November 2023. Pichel declined to fight after that weigh-in, stating:
“I decided to take away his ability to fight and make money.”
At UFC Vegas 111, Bonfim’s opponent Chris Padilla successfully made weight at 155 pounds.
The UFC confirmed that the Bonfim vs. Padilla bout will proceed as a catchweight fight. Bonfim will forfeit 25% of his purse as a penalty for missing weight.
In more positive news, the welterweight main event featuring Gabriel Bonfim and Randy Brown was official. Gabriel Bonfim weighed in at 170.5 pounds, while Brown came in at 171 pounds.
Aside from Ismael Bonfim, all other 23 fighters competing at UFC Vegas 111 successfully made weight.
