Just four years ago, Adriano Bertaccini (25) was living in a tent, playing alongside amateurs. Today, he is Anderlecht's leading striker, bearing the club's goal-scoring hopes. In this open interview, Bertaccini shares insights into his remarkable journey and his professional growth.
After showing frustration over being substituted in a match against KV Mechelen, Bertaccini faced criticism, including comments from former goalkeeper Frank Boeckx.
“He was right,” Bertaccini acknowledges. “I was disappointed because I felt good and wanted to keep playing, but my reaction was out of line. I immediately apologized to my teammates afterward. It won't happen again.”
Even 17-year-old teammate Nathan De Cat confronted him, which Bertaccini found surprising but also a sign of De Cat's leadership.
“That surprised me — at 17, I'd never have dared that. It shows his leadership qualities. He's already a real leader.”
Coach Besnik Hasi noted that Bertaccini currently cannot sustain full ninety-minute performances.
“That's true,” Bertaccini admits. “I don't know how to pace myself — I'm either on or off. When I'm on, I go full throttle until I drop.”
Despite criticism directed at the coach, the team remains united behind him. Bertaccini expressed solidarity with the coach after hearing negative reactions from fans.
“Hearing the boos before the match hurt. We're 100% behind him — you could see that in our response on the pitch.”
During a team meeting held without the coach, Bertaccini chose to stay silent.
Adriano Bertaccini exemplifies resilience, evolving from amateur struggles to professional leadership, while learning to control his passion and support his team unwaveringly.
