Bryan Adams paid heartfelt tribute to his mentor Joe Cocker while inducting the iconic singer into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November 2025.
The songwriter and performer spoke about his first encounter with Cocker’s music, recalling how the 1971 concert film Mad Dogs & Englishmen deeply influenced his desire to pursue a music career.
“I can honestly say that any ambitions I had of being a musician before I'd seen that film were doubled by the time I left that cinema. It was that inspiring.”
Adams also mentioned their collaboration on Cocker’s last Top 40 single, the 1989 track When the Night Comes, which he co-wrote and played guitar on. During his speech, he shared a humorous memory from that recording session.
“I once tried to drink with Joe. He came in with a bottle of cola and a bottle of rum — the famous Joe cola. After he sang a one-take vocal, he insisted we celebrate with one. That was the end of the recording session.”
The ceremony also honored Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes in the performer category.
Bryan Adams celebrated Joe Cocker’s enduring legacy at the Rock Hall, sharing admiration, memories, and laughter in a night honoring musical greatness.
