During NBC’s special Wicked: One Wonderful Night, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande performed their version of the iconic song For Good at Broadway’s Gershwin Theater. The event delighted fans with a reunion featuring the original Elphaba and Glinda, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth.
The performance stood out as a unique highlight of the evening. In contrast to the rest of the show, it was recorded on the very stage where the Broadway production began. Composer Stephen Schwartz accompanied the quartet on piano, adding depth and nostalgia to the moment.
“Wicked: One Wonderful Night offered viewers the first opportunity to see Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo perform ‘For Good,’ from the new film— but the magic didn’t stop there.”
The number was reimagined as a quartet, blending voices from the original and new generations of Wicked performers. A new verse was written exclusively for this performance, giving the classic song a fresh emotional layer while honoring its legacy.
Filmed partly at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the special transformed the venue into an Emerald City setting. A live 37-piece orchestra, directed by Stephen Oremus, accompanied the evening’s musical performances and contributed to its cinematic grandeur. The full special is now available for streaming on Peacock.
The televised reunion of Wicked’s original and film cast stars turned a familiar song into a landmark performance celebrating legacy and renewal on Broadway’s most magical stage.
