Rugged schedule, Steph Curry’s illness force Warriors to take early precautions

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has confirmed that point guard Steph Curry will not play in Wednesday’s game against Sacramento due to illness and fatigue from a tight schedule.

"I don’t care what the doctors say, we got to get him some rest. I’ll make the decision right now, he’s not going to play tomorrow," said Steve Kerr.

After the Warriors’ 118–107 victory over the Phoenix Suns at Chase Center, Curry appeared visibly ill, coughing and sniffling during his postgame interview. He mentioned that a cold had been bothering him for several days and was only getting worse.

Though he admitted the sickness had affected his performance, Curry initially hoped to play in the next matchup, saying it would take a lot for him to sit out. However, Kerr overruled that decision to ensure his star player had enough recovery time.

Potential additional absences

The Warriors, now standing at 5–3, may also need to play without Jimmy Butler, who left the game at halftime after aggravating lower back soreness. Butler logged 14 minutes before being ruled out for the remainder of the night.
