Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife, Kayla, shared an emotional post on Instagram revealing the loss of their newborn daughter, Sterling Sol.
Vesia left the Dodgers roster just before the World Series after what the team described as “a deeply personal family matter.” The couple had been expecting their first child when the heartbreaking news came that their daughter passed away on Sunday, October 26th.
Vesia’s teammates honored him by wearing his number 51 on their caps during the World Series. Players from the opposing Toronto Blue Jays joined in this gesture, showing solidarity and compassion during the difficult time.
“Our little angel, we love you forever and you’re with us always. Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday, October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through, but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
“Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them. Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen all your messages, comments and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.”
Alex Vesia’s open message of grief and gratitude reveals both the sorrow of personal loss and the deep compassion within the baseball community.
