Graham Richardson, former Labor senator and well-known political commentator, has passed away at the age of 76. He became unwell with the flu in September, which later developed into pneumonia.
Richardson died at approximately 3:50 a.m. on Saturday, after making a final promise to his family.
"Before he died, Richardson told his wife Amanda he planned to live until their son D'Arcy finished his HSC exams."
D'Arcy completed his final French exam on Thursday, shortly before his father's passing.
The news of Richardson's death was shared on 2GB radio by host Ben Fordham, who informed listeners following a phone call from Richardson's family.
"D'Arcy and Amanda have asked me to share the news with everyone that, sadly, Richo has passed away in the early hours of this morning."
Fordham also revealed that in recent weeks, Richardson had suffered from influenza, pneumonia, and had undergone dialysis to improve his blood condition.
Richardson had a history of serious health problems, having been first diagnosed with cancer in 1999. In 2016, he underwent surgery to remove his bowel.
Graham Richardson and his wife Amanda were often seen together at public events, including a movie premiere in November 2015.
