Lucy Liu Debuts Her Shortest Haircut in Years

Lucy Liu has embraced a fresh look with a lob haircut, showcased in her leading role in the upcoming drama Rosemead. The Charlie's Angels alum debuted the style—a short, side-parted cut just above her collarbone—in the film's trailer.

About the Film Rosemead

Rosemead premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and is scheduled for theatrical release on December 5. The drama follows Irene (played by Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou) as they navigate life after Joe's schizophrenia diagnosis.

The story is inspired by Frank Shyong's 2017 Los Angeles Times article, "A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son."

Lucy Liu on the Role

“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together,” Liu told Variety. “In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”

This role represents a shift from Liu's usual lighthearted and action-oriented projects like Ally McBeal, Watching the Detectives, and Why Women Kill.

Premiere and Interviews

At the Tribeca Film Festival premiere, Liu discussed her connection to Rosemead and similar projects during an interview with Parade.

Summary: Lucy Liu’s new role in Rosemead brings a dramatic change both to her on-screen presence and style, highlighting her versatility as an actress.
