Baltimore County fire officials are looking into reports of an unusual smell detected inside Perry Hall Middle School on Friday afternoon. The incident was announced on X shortly before 2:30 p.m.
“Children in the school located in the 4300 block of Ebenezer Road are not in immediate danger,” the department said, emphasizing that parents should not come to the school at this time.
According to the post, fire units are cooperating closely with school administrators as they assess the situation. The school’s principal, Justin Benjamin, informed families that staff members noticed an “unusual odor” around 1:30 p.m. and promptly began evacuation protocols as a safety measure.
“All students and staff are safe and continuing to follow proper evacuation procedures. Since investigators have not yet cleared re-entry, everyone remains at a secure distance,” Benjamin explained. “We are asking families NOT to come to the school to pick up their child.”
