On Friday afternoon, a fire broke out in a commercial building located in Baltimore’s Remington neighborhood, along the 400 block of West 23rd Street near Hampden Avenue. Crews from the Baltimore City Fire Department (BCFD) responded quickly to contain the flames and ensure public safety.
Firefighters worked throughout the day to bring the blaze under control. Smoke from the scene was visible across the city as flames pierced through the roof of the two-story structure.
“We evacuated 23 people to a nearby church. They will return to their homes once the area is confirmed safe,” said Fire Chief James Wallace.
Wallace added that it may take the rest of the day before the fire is fully contained.
Nearby homes were cleared as a safety measure, and residents were urged to avoid the area. The MTA’s LocalLink 94 Fort McHenry route was rerouted, resulting in possible delays. Out of precaution, non-essential staff from the nearby Baltimore Public Media studios were also evacuated, though broadcast operations continued normally.
The affected building hosts a woodworking business along with either a toy or textile manufacturing company. No injuries have been reported, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
