ITV Lorraine star addresses being drunk live on show after apologising to bosses

ITV Lorraine Star Dr Hilary Jones Recalls Being Drunk Live on Air

Dr Hilary Jones, a regular guest on Lorraine Kelly's ITV show, revealed a moment when he unintentionally appeared on the programme while intoxicated and later apologized to the producers. The experienced doctor, who has shared health advice on the show for several years, reflected on this unusual live TV experience.

Dr Hilary’s Live On-Air Incident

At 72 years old, Dr Hilary recalled running the New York Marathon and celebrating with his brothers afterward. Without eating much and having consumed a significant amount of beer, he was scheduled for a live segment from a remote studio in Times Square with Lorraine.

“All I remember was giggling and laughing and talking rubbish because I was actually a bit drunk. Afterwards I thought, ‘They’re going to sack me, I’ve made a big faux pas. What did I say?’”

He described trying to get the camera setup right before suddenly being live and answering Lorraine's questions in a euphoric, unprofessional state.

Apologizing to the Producers

Concerned that his behaviour had cost him his role, Dr Hilary called the show's bosses the next day to apologize.

“I phoned them and said, 'I’m really sorry' and they said, ‘Why? You sounded brilliant, you just sounded happy! You sounded euphoric and it was really energetic and lovely.’ So, I got away with it.”

Author’s Summary
