Significant updates on North Quays: Train station, Bridge, Clock Tower - News - Waterford News & Star

North Quays Progress Update

Progress on the North Quays project is increasingly visible to the public, especially around the Sustainable Transport Bridge, train station, and the South Quays Plaza near the Clock Tower.

Train Station Developments

The front elevation of the new train station is now clearly visible after scaffolding removal. The northern plaza, which includes bus and car drop-off zones and access to the new southeast greenway, is advancing well with curbs and paving being installed.

Structural work on the station will be completed in the coming months, including roofing, paving, rendering, and internal fit-out. Significant mechanical and electrical tasks remain before the station is fully finished.

Waterford Council Senior Engineer Sean Dobbs said, "The station can only open once it passes through all the independent safety and compliance checks, and those will continue all through 2026 and into 2027."

The station is anticipated to open in 2027.

Sustainable Transport Bridge

The Sustainable Transport Bridge is now fully installed, with the opening spans functioning as intended. BAM continues to regularly open and close the spans.

In upcoming months, focus will shift to finalizing surfacing, glass panels, railings, lighting, seating, and architectural details.

Summary

The North Quays development shows clear advancement, with key infrastructure nearing completion and safety checks scheduled through 2027 before opening.
